DJ Reception Services

I plan ahead with you to determine exactly what music you want and to make a request list from my personal collection of over 20,000 songs. (I have access to over 400,000 more, so if you don't find something in your search, don't hesistate to ask for it anyways.) You or I will make a list that contains both what you have to hear, want to hear, and what you don't want to hear. We also take requests at your wedding (from our standard catalog of around 1000 CD's) to continually adjust the music to exactly what you and your guests want to hear. I can also of course help you pick out songs for your first dance, last dance, and any other special dances you may want like a father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, bridal party dance, etc. If you'd like to get started you can search through out DJ music catalog or check out the suggestions in the DJ planning guide.

We also act as your Master of Ceremonies which means much more than just making the right announcements at the right time. I work with you ahead of time to construct a timeline for your wedding which we then manage throughout the day to keep things running on track and we massage the timeline around if necessary.

As your MC, we make all the annoucements that you would like including announcing the bridal party if desired, dinner tables if necessary and also including any special traditions your family may have like the Tea Ceremony at Chinese weddings. We are not however the kind of DJ's that like to talk on the microphone instead of letting your guests enjoy the reception and the music. As both a DJ and a photographer Mischa has the unique advantage of seeing many other DJ's at work on a regular basis and knows that the most common complaint about most DJ's is that they talk too much or didn't take guests requests. At your wedding we will play music for your guests and make your requested announcements only. We will not start telling jokes or otherwise use the mic for no good reason. At your reception we also provide a wireless microphone so that any toasts or special announcements can be made with ease by your family and friends.

If you'd like we can also encourage your guests to dance by initiating special dances like the "couple's dance." For this dance we call all couples to the dance floor, then gradually ask those in shorter relationships (by years together) to step aside until there is just one couple still dancing. This couple is then invited to give advice to the new bride and groom. We can also do other special dances but we ask that you request this kind of stuff ahead of time. We don't generally even bring, and much less play, the "chicken dance," "hamster dance," "Hokey Pokey," or any of the other game dances, unless specifically requested ahead of time.

A lot of brides ask what we will do to get people dancing if nobody wants to dance. Our answer is this... First, weddings are a time to catch up. For a lot of families people don't see each other as often as they used to and this a perfect time to reconnect. For many of those, a good DJ is one who will keep the music at a respectable volume and allow them to just talk. Second, the bride and groom set the tone for the party. If the bride and groom are dancing then their friends will always join in, but if they don't want to then it's hard to blame the guests for not wanting to either. and third, we always take requests and doing this allows your guests to dance to the songs that they want to hear, at the moment they want to hear them. We've never had a complaint that people weren't dancing because they didn't like the music. (knock on wood) We also vary the music methodically through various genre's to feel out your audience and see what genre(s) they respond to best.

We also have lighting effects available for those couples that really want to create a dancing environment. We have everything from simple rope lights, simulated flame lights and a disco ball to advanced intelligent lighting which among other things can be used to spotlight the bride and groom during the first dance, or can be used during toasts or to spotlight the speaker. This kind of lighting is also great if you want a dance club feeling without an overpowering array of flashing multi colored lights. These emit one beam each from four fixtures and can sweep the room changing between colors and patterns creating a very elegant lighting effect and staying out of peopl's eyes more than other lighting.

If there's anything extra we can do to make your wedding special, please let us know. We strive to be the best in the business.
